Gaddam Prasad Kumar Is the New Speaker of Telangana Assembly

A new government is going to be formed in Telangana with Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister. The Congress leadership finalized Gaddam Prasad Kumar as the Speaker of the Assembly. Prasad Kumar, who was elected MLA from Vikarabad Constituency, previously worked as Minister of Handloom and Textiles. However, during the Telangana movement, G. Prasad Kumar contested as a Congress Party candidate in the by-elections held in 2008 and won against Telugu Desam Party candidate B. Sanjeeva Rao and was elected as MLA of the Assembly for the first time. Also, in the 2009 Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, he contested as a candidate of the Congress party. He won as MLA for the second time by winning with a majority of 4,859 votes over Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate A Chandrasekhar.

Gaddam Prasad Kumar got an opportunity in 2012 to be the Minister of Textiles in former Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet. Also, he was defeated in the elections held in 2014 & 2018. After that, he was appointed as the state vice president of the Congress party. Gaddam Prasad Kumar was elected as a member of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Executive Committee on 10 December 2022. After winning the recently held assembly elections, the Congress party once again gave him the appropriate position as the Speaker of the Telangana State Assembly.
