AP Government: Rapid Advancements at the Machilipatnam Port

The longstanding aspiration of Krishna district residents is on the verge of fulfillment as the Machilipatnam port, a state government project costing approximately 11,454 crores, progresses. CM Jagan initiated the construction with the foundation stone laid on May 22, marking the commencement of four berths under the first phase, estimated at Rs. 5,254 crores. With an ambitious target to complete the project in 30 months, significant progress has been made, including the identification and marking of port construction boundaries, completion of the North Break Water, and 70% progress in the South Break Water construction. Two berths are already under construction.

In a groundbreaking move, CM Jagan’s administration has expedited port development, initiating the construction of four ports within four and a half years. The completed works at Ramayapatnam and Kakinada gateway ports contrast with the ongoing final stages of Mulapet and Machilipatnam ports. The latter, equipped with four berths catering to general cargo, coal, and multipurpose containers, will have an annual capacity of 35.12 million tonnes for exports and imports, contributing significantly to business expansion.

The government-funded Machilipatnam port is poised to benefit regions like Krishna, NTR, Guntur, East Godavari, West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Anticipated to handle imports of fertilizers, coal, cooking oils, and containers, the port will facilitate the export of clinker, granite blocks, and pig iron. The operational port is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for 25 thousand people. Future expansion plans include increasing the port to 16 berths, elevating its annual capacity to 116 million tons as commercial activities expand.
