AP Government’s Innovative App To Inspect Medicine Quality

The measures undertaken by CM YS Jagan aimed at providing quality medicines to the people of the state are bearing fruit. To this end, the CM introduced a new system in the last four and a half years to get rid of low-quality medicines. In this system, the state government has also created a special app (Computer Aided Selection of Inspection). In this system, drug inspectors will conduct periodic inspections in wholesale and retail drug stores and drug manufacturing companies under their jurisdiction, collect samples and analyze them in labs.

Thorough Inspections

Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs are less in AP as compared to the national level. An average of 4% of NSQ drugs are found in the country, but only 1.55% in the state. But it is known that last year it was recorded at 2.5 percent. It is decreasing every year. While there are 353 drug manufacturing units, 213 blood banks, 132 blood storage centres, and 44,973 wholesale and retail drug shops in the state, the state government takes a special initiative and conducts inspections. The drug control department is continuously monitoring the manufacturing companies, and wholesale and retail drug shops with the aim of making quality drugs available. From April to October this year, 12,686 drug shops and 243 drug manufacturing units were inspected.

Focus on Randomness

In the past, inspections in drug shops and manufacturing units were carried out as per the orders of drug inspectors. After CM Jagan assumed power, this policy ceased. The new and intelligent sampling system focuses on random checks, reducing the intervention of officials in the collection of samples and inspections. For this purpose, an app with Computer Aided Selection of Inspection technology has been created. In this system, the drug inspectors will be alerted by an artificial intelligence system regarding which shop to check in their area.

More than 10 Standards in the Collection of Samples

Inspections will be done in the manufacturing unit as per the shop indicated by the Computer Aided Selection of Inspection app. After that, the reports have to be uploaded to the app. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was formulated with more than 10 criteria for the collection of samples. According to this SOP, drug inspectors collect samples and send them to the lab. By this process, the fate of substandard medicines is being found out and the people of the state are reaping the benefits.
