This is evidenced by the fact that Andhra Pradesh is number one in the country in the gross enrollment ratio index of enrollment of children in government schools at the primary, upper primary and elementary levels in the academic year 2021. According to the report released by SBI, Andhra Pradesh ranks first among the top states where the gross enrollment ratio has increased in the country in 2021 compared to 2017. It also stated that the state has the highest gross enrollment in 2021, surpassing the national gross enrollment.

Did the Ammavodi scheme have an effect?

The top four states in gross enrollment ratio are Andhra Pradesh followed by Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The report said that gross enrollment in Andhra Pradesh has increased by 18.4 percent in primary, 13.4 percent in upper primary and 16.5 percent in elementary in 2021 as compared to 2017. It is clear that the main reason for this is the measures taken by the state government to keep all out-of-school children in schools.

The state government is implementing the Jagananna Ammaodi scheme with the vision that the poor parents of all communities should not be burdened with their children’s education. Through the implementation of this scheme, all children from poor communities are encouraged to join schools. In fact, the poor families used to think that if they sent their children to school instead of work, they would be financially disadvantaged. However, now the YSRCP government is providing financial assistance at the rate of Rs 15,000 per year if the children are sent to schools through Jagananna Ammavodi. As a result, poor people of all classes are sending their children to schools.

Radical Reforms in Public Schools

On the other hand, 15,000 schools have been provided with infrastructure in the first phase through the Nadu-Nedu program in government schools. Also, in the second phase, the facilities of another 22,221 schools were improved and the shape of the schools was changed. Also, measures are being taken by village and ward volunteers to prevent children from dropping out of school. If children drop out of school, the government takes appropriate measures to make them return to school. Also, the school provides nutritious food with Jagananna Gorumudda to the poor students so that they do not suffer from hunger in the afternoon. Also, the government provides all the facilities needed for the education of poor children like notebooks, textbooks, uniforms, shoes and bags. Also, English medium classes are being implemented in schools to improve the future of government students and improve their skills. It also provides tabs to help children gain world knowledge and clear various doubts in the lessons they study. With these measures, all the children of poor families who cannot pay high fees in private schools and cannot send them to school due to financial conditions at home are now happily studying in schools.
