AP’s Phenomenal Strides in Mining: National Accolade for Transparency

The Andhra Pradesh Mines Department has received an ‘Award of Appreciation’ for its excellent work in the field of mining. To this extent, AP Mining Department Director VG Venkata Reddy received this award at the State Mining Ministers Conference held on Tuesday in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh through the hands of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Andhra Pradesh government has the third position in mining among 28 states of the country. With this, the centre showered praises on the state government.

Award for Transparency

The state government has won this national-level award for its transparent procedures in issuing major minerals mining leases. In turn, the Ministers praised CM Jagan for bringing many reforms in the mining sector in the state. “It was commendable that AP stood at the third position at the national level within a short period of time with the most transparent policies being adopted in this sector. However, in the past, there was a system of issuing leases to those who had applied earlier, which not only caused many problems but also resulted in a situation where most of the mining blocks stopped operations without taking place,” VG Venkata Reddy, Director of the Department of Mines reminded in the meeting.

Emphasising ‘Action’

The Ministers said that after YS Jagan came to power, the auction system was implemented to get the mining sector back on track. It is stated that the auction process has been successfully conducted for 146 minor mineral blocks in 2022-23 and 134 minor mineral blocks in 2023-24. On the other hand, it is known that the central government has also brought amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act (1957) in 2015.
