Elections in AP: ‘Vote from Home’ for Seniors, Disabled Citizens

The elections in Andhra Pradesh are drawing near, political parties have begun the process of candidate selection and organizing public meetings. CM Jagan assumed power in 2019 now it’s time for the people to decide on his govenrance in the last five years. The TDP, which secured 23 seats in the last election, is determined to win this time and is joining forces with Janasena. Meanwhile, the Election Commission is gearing up for the upcoming elections.

Innovations by the EC

During the state elections, the Election Commission (EC) plans to introduce new policies. In this regard, there are efforts to implement the ‘Vote from Home’ option in Andhra Pradesh elections. This system was first introduced during the Karnataka elections and has since been successfully implemented in several states, including Telangana. The EC aims to implement it in Andhra Pradesh as well. However, officials clarify that this option is exclusively for senior citizens aged 80 and above.

How to apply?

Individuals aged 80 and above will have the option to vote through a postal ballot from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, over 40 percent of disabled individuals will also be given the opportunity to exercise their voting rights from home. To avail of this option, an advance application is required. Interested individuals must submit their applications using the 12D form at least five days before the election notification. The Election Commission teams will review these applications and grant the ‘Vote from Home’ option to eligible individuals.
