Internal Strife in AP Government’s Opposition Party TDP Raises Questions

TDP is witnessing an upsurge in internal dissent. On one side, there’s dissent, and on the other, ongoing factional battles, leaving the party leadership in a dilemma. It is reported that secret meetings are being organized to address and mitigate these issues. In the Kovvur constituency of East Godavari district, dissent has flared up intensely against former minister K.S. Jawahar. The division within TDP into two factions, one led by the dual member committee and another by the key leader Achchibabu in the Kovvur constituency, has become a sensation across the state.

Kovvur is a key constituency in the East Godavari district. K.S. Jawahar, who contested in the 2014 elections from here, served as a minister thereafter. After Jawahar became the minister, the leaders of the Pendyala Achibabu faction, which rules TDP politics in the Kovvur constituency, turned against Jawahar. Information suggests that the Pendyala Achchibabu faction has made it clear they will collectively oppose if Jawahar is allocated the assembly seat, stating they would ensure a decisive defeat in the general elections if their opinion is disregarded. A recent meeting saw extensive protests with chants and placards loudly proclaiming “No to Jawahar, Yes to TDP,” manifesting their dissent.

The ambiguity from TDP leadership regarding the allocation of seats has turned the Kovvur constituency into a topic of discussion. Despite the ongoing conflict between these two factions, reports suggest that TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu has not made efforts to resolve the issue. The differences between the two factions are intensifying day by day. While Jawahar’s faction is campaigning that Chandrababu Naidu is showing favoritism towards them, the other faction is vehemently denying this claim.
