Assembly Elections In 2 States, Decrease In Polling Percentage

Polling for the Assembly elections was held in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram on Tuesday. Voters have raised their voices by pressing a button in EVMs. In the first phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly polling was conducted for 20 seats, 223 candidates were contesting. This time, 76.26% polling percentage was recorded here whereas in 2018, 77.23% polling was recorded. This indicates a decrease in turnout. The process which was slow since morning, gained momentum in the afternoon.

In Chhattisgarh, in the first phase of the elections held in 9 districts, the Bastar constituency recorded the highest polling percentage of 84.65%. Only 46% of polling took place in Bijapur. 80.79% voting in Bastar district, 81.76% in Kondagaon, 80.99% in Rajnandgaon and 40% in Bijapur district. Apart from this, the voting in the rest of the districts was recorded from 61% to 80%. Thus defying the Naxalites, voters in many districts showed enthusiasm and voted enthusiastically.

Elections for 40 seats of Mizoram Assembly were held in a single phase. A total polling percentage of 80.05% was recorded here. Voters showed interest in voting from the morning. 174 candidates are competing for 40 seats. Here also in 2018, 81.61% of polling was recorded. This time it has decreased a bit.

Finally, in the 11 districts of Mizoram, the highest polling percentage of 84.78% was recorded in Serchhip. The lowest voting percentage was 76.42% in Aizawl district. In South Mizoram, 76.81% of votes were cast in Siaha and 80.74% of votes in Saitual.
