Bharat Rice to be Available at Rs. 29 per Kilo from Next Week

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s introduction of the interim budget on Thursday has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who argue it fails to deliver any benefits for the poor. Everyone expected big promises in the budget before the elections. But the budget speech ended without any such big promises. The price of rice has increased tremendously, the Indian government has decided to offer rice at Rs. 29 per kilo through the retail market under the India Rice Scheme. Sanjeev Chopra, the Secretary of the Ministry of Food, announced that starting next week, rice will be available at Rs. 29 per kilo as part of the India Rice Scheme.

He also revealed that the India Rice will be available for purchase at retail outlets of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited, National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Limited, and Kendriya Bhandar. Sanjeev Chopra stated that ‘India Rice’ will be available in 5kg and 10kg bags. He noted that wheat flour is already being sold at Rs. 27.50 per kilo and chickpeas at Rs. 60 per kilo. He expressed that the India Rice Scheme would bring relief to the common man.
