CM Yogi: Uttar Pradesh Tense as Muslims Rally for ‘Jail Bharo’ Campaign

Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly sees escalating tensions. CM Yogi Adityanath announced in the assembly that Muslims should voluntarily relinquish the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi and the Shahi Idgah Mosque in Mathura. In protest against Yogi Adityanath’s comments, the chief of Ittehad-e-Millat Council, Tauqeer Raza Khan, called for a ‘Jail Bharo’ movement. To counter the protesters, a large number of police were deployed in Bareilly. Despite the deployment of police, thousands of followers of Taukeer Raza Khan took to the streets immediately after the prayers. During this incident, the police took Taukeer Raza Khan into custody.

Raza Khan made it clear that they are ready if the government seeks violence and stated they are not afraid of the police or bullets, referring to the incident in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Raza Khan expressed the opinion that the Supreme Court should issue notices, but he believes it is acting under government pressure. The situation became tense due to religious clashes in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, which is close to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
