The Samajwadi Party and the Congress have officially confirmed their alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of the Congress, played a crucial role in finalizing the alliance between the two parties. Talks between the SP and Congress in Uttar Pradesh have been ongoing for the past few days. Initially, there was a delay in seat allocation due to the Congress’s insistence on prominent positions. However, the deadlock was broken when SP chief Akhilesh Yadav announced the alliance. Akhilesh Yadav is expected to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nay Yatra now that the Congress-SP alliance has been confirmed.

In the previous Lok Sabha elections, the Congress suffered a significant setback in Uttar Pradesh, securing just one out of 80 seats. The lone victory was in Rae Bareli, where Sonia Gandhi contested, while prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi faced defeat. To improve its prospects, Congress has decided to ally with the SP this time around.
