Farmer’s Protests Continue to Intensify in the Delhi

Delhi remains tense with ongoing unrest. Farmers have once again taken to the streets demanding an increase in support prices for crops and the implementation of the M.S. Swaminathan Commission recommendations in the agricultural sector. Farmers have established camps around the outskirts of Delhi, staging protests under the “Delhi Chalo” initiative against the central government’s policies. They have also called for a ‘Grameena Bharat Bandh’ on February 16th. In light of this, government machinery and the police system are on high alert.

In light of farmers’ leaders declaring their determination to enter the capital region under any circumstances, the police have set up stringent security measures. The security forces have also been alerted by the information that more farmers are coming to participate in these agitations. Authorities are regulating the movement of heavy vehicles through the villages at the Shambhu border, a peripheral area of Delhi. Currently, Section 144 is being implemented across Delhi. This is causing severe inconvenience to the vehicle owners. Congress Party has expressed its full support for the farmer protests. The party leader Rahul Gandhi has also announced a temporary pause to the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
