Farmers’ Unions Lead Nationwide ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh’

A nationwide ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh’ is going on currently in response to the call made by various farmer organizations. Leaders of farmer unions have stated that this bandh, which started at 6 AM today, will continue until 4 PM in the evening. The bandh is being observed with demands including the implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Commission recommendations for agriculture, control of price rise, removal of GST on essential commodities, reduction in petrol and diesel prices, food security, housing for all, free education, minimum wages, employment generation, legal guarantee for support prices for farmers’ crops, loan waivers, and resolution of farmers’ issues. Protesting against the central government’s attitude towards farmers, various labour unions, along with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, are participating in this bandh. During this bandh, national highways are being blocked, train stoppages are planned, and various forms of protest activities are being conducted.

On the other hand, farmers and leaders of farmer unions coming to Delhi from states like Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to participate in the bandh are being detained by the police at various places. To prevent farmers from entering Delhi, the borders have been sealed. There’s information that 30,000 tear gas shells have been prepared to disperse them if they attempt to enter Delhi. Efforts are being made to deploy more police officers to the scene.
