INDIA Alliance Gains Momentum as Nitish Kumar Emerges as Potential Convener

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the opposition India Alliance is gaining traction. However, a significant issue arose during discussions among the alliance leaders regarding seat distribution. Sources indicate that Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and JDU chief, is likely to be appointed as the convener of the alliance. It is anticipated that the opposition parties will convene virtually this week to finalize this decision. On Tuesday, Congress deliberated on this proposal with Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The coalition appears to have engaged with other participating parties, taking their opinions into account. Nitish Kumar had a conversation with Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, and it seems that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal also expressed support for the idea of appointing Nitish Kumar to this role.

Under the banner of the India Alliance, all non-NDA opposition parties in the country have united to counter the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 general elections. This alliance includes major parties such as Congress, RJD, JDU, AAP, Trinamool Congress, and DMK, along with smaller parties. The inaugural meeting of the alliance was chaired by CM Nitish Kumar in Patna, followed by meetings in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi. The most recent gathering took place in Delhi on December 19, during which Mallikarjuna Kharge and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee were proposed as potential prime ministerial candidates.
