Lok Sabha Election Schedule Likely to be Announced on March 13

The Election Commission of India, having completed all preparations for the general elections and various state assembly elections, is likely to announce the schedule soon. Reports in the national media suggest that the schedule could be unveiled on March 13. Given the context of the previous general election schedule being announced on March 10, 2019, analysts are also predicting that the schedule for this year might be released in the second week of March as well.

The Election Commission of India has been touring various states for some time now, reviewing preparations for the upcoming general and several state assembly elections. Having conducted meetings with various political parties and local officials, the EC has already prepared the schedule. The election schedule is expected to be announced in the second week of March, with the elections likely to be conducted in April-May. This time, elections will be held not only for the Lok Sabha but also for the legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. There is also consideration for conducting assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, but clarity is awaited on this. A total of 543 Lok Sabha seats are expected to go to polls in seven phases again this time. The election code of conduct will come into effect as soon as the schedule is announced.
