Rahul Gandhi’s Call to Uddhav Thackeray Sparks Speculation in Maharashtra Politics

Amidst preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party is hastening the process of allocating seats. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had a one-hour phone conversation with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. Rahul Gandhi, who is currently in India for a legal matter, called Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the allocation of seats. The call aimed to resolve the deadlock over 8 out of the 48 seats in Maharashtra.

In the 2019 parliamentary elections, the Shiv Sena alliance contested 22 out of 48 seats and won 18. Following this, there was a division within Shiv Sena, with some key leaders siding with Eknath Shinde and joining the BJP. Similarly, there were splits in the NCP, a significant part of the Mahaghatbandhan government, with Ajit Pawar’s faction aligning with the BJP. In light of these developments, the Congress party is now working to negotiate seat sharing with the Shiv Sena.
