SP: Senior MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq Passes Away

A deep sorrow has descended upon the Samajwadi Party as their senior leader and Member of Parliament, Shafiqur Rahman Barq, aged 93, has passed away. Suffering from illness for some time, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed profound grief over his demise.

Representing the Sambhal constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Shafiqur Rahman Barq has created a record as the oldest Member of Parliament in the current parliament. He had vast political experience, having won as an MLA four times from Sambhal, thrice as an MP from Moradabad, and twice as an MP from Sambhal. The Samajwadi Party had recently decided to field Shafiqur Rahman Barq from Sambhal in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, a tragic turn of events occurred with his passing. Previously, Barq made headlines for his controversial remarks on the “Vande Mataram” slogan and later stirred more controversies by comparing the Taliban to freedom fighters.
