Is Congress considering Sania Mirza for the Hyderabad MP segment?

In the assembly elections, the Congress party achieved a significant victory and assumed power in Telangana. The party is now actively preparing to secure a majority of seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Candidates are being selected actively as part of this endeavour. While the BJP and BRS have already announced candidates for 17 seats, the Congress is earnestly engaging in candidate selection. The criteria for selection include social cohesion, charisma, physical strength, and mental fortitude. Each parliamentary segment is carefully considered, and candidates are chosen accordingly.

It has come to light that the Congress party has introduced a new candidate for the Hyderabad Parliament seat, surprising many. This move indicates a shift in the dynamics of the political landscape, as both the BJP and Congress vie for dominance in the historically AIMIM-held territory.

AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin is strategizing to counter these moves. In response, the BJP has nominated a candidate who is not even a party member. Additionally, the Congress is contemplating fielding a candidate who can face up to Owaisi. Former Indian cricketer Azharuddin’s name was initially considered for the Hyderabad Parliament seat, but it is now rumoured that the party is considering tennis star Sania Mirza. There are indications that this decision is well-received, considering Mirza’s widespread recognition as a tennis star and her Hyderabad roots, which are expected to foster unity.

While the Congress is banking on Sania Mirza’s previous role as Telangana’s brand ambassador to bolster her candidacy, her official confirmation as an MP candidate awaits inclusion in the next Congress candidate list. The Congress Central Election Committee meeting in Delhi today will likely shed light on the remaining eight seats’ candidates, followed by the official release of the candidate list by the AICC. Whether Sania’s name will feature in this list remains to be seen.
