Liquor Sales Spike to New Highs in Telangana Election Season

Elections in Telangana brought bagfuls of money for the excise department. The Telangana people set records with liquor purchases. In other words, the talk is that people consumed alcohol like drinking water. On the occasion of elections, beers were sold at a record level. This November, 21 lakh 69 thousand cases of liquor were sold in just 27 days. On the other hand, 30 lakh 44 thousand cases of beer were also purchased. That means, 1 Lakh cases of beer were sold per day, on average. These are worth around Rs.3 crores say Government sources.

Excise department officials revealed that between November 1 and November 20, around 22 lakh cases of beer were sold in Telangana. In the same period last year, only around 12 lakh cases of beer were sold. Liquor worth Rs.8,900 crores was sold in the state in 3 months during the elections.
