Ramagundam Back In Congress Grasp After 29 Long Years

After 29 years, the Congress flag was hoisted in Ramagundam. Makkan Singh Raj Thakur won from this constituency in the latest election. Ramagundam industrial area was once a bastion of the Congress party. Medaram (SC) constituency consisted of Ramagundam, Velgatoor, Dharmaram and other mandals. In 1967 and 1978, G. Ramulu and G. Eshwar won as MLAs from the Ramagundam region. In 1983, Matangi Narsaiah (independent) won and joined the Congress. In 1985, Singareni worker Malem Mallesham won the TDP election. In 1989, Congress candidate Matangi Narsaiah won as MLA.

Since then no Congress candidate has won in this region. Later, Malem Mallesham became an independent candidate in 1994, Matangi Narsaiah (TDP) in 1999 and Koppula Eshwar (BRS) in 2004 became MLAs. In the redistribution of constituencies in 2009, Ramagundam became a general. In that year, Somarapu Satyanarayana won as an independent and in 2014 from BRS. In 2018, Korukanti Chander won from the All India Forward Bloc.

Makkan Singh Raj Thakur Rewrites Records

Since the formation of the Ramagundam Constituency, elections have been held four times. This is the first time a Congress candidate has won here. That too with a huge majority. In 2009, as an independent candidate, Somarapu Satyanarayana won against PRP candidate Kaushika Hari by 2,220 votes, and in 2014, as a TRS candidate, Somarapu Satyanarayana won against All India Forward Bloc candidate Kurukanti Chander by 2,295 votes.

In the 2018 elections, Korukanti Chander (AIFB) won against Satyanarayana (BRS) with a majority of 26,419. In this election, MS Raj Thakur won against BRS candidate Korukanti Chander with a huge majority of 56,794 votes. This majority is the highest among the 13 constituencies of the combined Karimnagar district. Except for Raj Thakur, no other candidate got a 40 thousand majority.
