RTC is Contemplating Introducing Buses Exclusively for Men in Telangana

Congress government in Telangana fulfilled its commitment to providing free bus travel for women, girls, and transgender individuals across the state within just two days of assuming office. This initiative extends zero-ticket travel privileges on Pallevelugu, Express, City Ordinary, and Metro Express buses. The implementation of this policy has resulted in a substantial increase in ridership on RTC buses.

RTC statistics indicate a notable surge, with the number of regular women passengers growing from 12 to 14 lakh to over 30 lakh. The influx of women passengers has led to increased demand for dedicated buses or additional services to accommodate the rising numbers. Conductors highlighted this concern in an online meeting with RTC MD Sajjanar.

In response to the observed congestion, RTC is contemplating the possibility of introducing buses exclusively for men on specific routes and times. Additionally, discussions are underway to assess the feasibility of organizing special buses for students, with senior citizens being given priority, according to RTC sources. The transportation authority is exploring various options, including separate buses for men, students, or exclusively for women, taking into account time-wise congestion patterns.”
