The Telangana Auto Drivers Union (TADU) State President, Vemula Maraiah, has called for a successful statewide auto strike on the 16th of this month. He stated that the free bus scheme provided to women in the state has led to drivers losing their livelihood, resulting in some resorting to suicide due to their dire circumstances. He expressed his frustration that despite numerous suicides, the government has not responded. Therefore, he urged every auto driver to participate in the strike to make it successful.

BRTU Auto Union Stand

The Congress government in the state started giving free bus rides to women under the Mahalakshmi Scheme, as one of their six promised guarantees. As part of this scheme, from December 9th, free travel was made available to all eligible individuals. This resulted in a decrease in the number of people traveling by autos and other private vehicles. Because of this, auto drivers lost their jobs and decided to go on strike. A new BRTU Auto Union stand near the Zoo Park was inaugurated.
