Telangana HC Sensational Verdict in Governor Quota MLCs Case

The Telangana State High Court has announced a sensational verdict on the appointment of Governor Quota MLCs. The HC struck down Prof. Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan’s appointment. The High Court had wronged Governor Tamilisai’s cancellation of the selection of Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana during the previous BRS government. If the Governor has any objection to the appointment of quota MLCs, she can only send back the file but the Governor has no authority to reject the appointment, it said. The High Court ordered to take up the process of appointment of new MLCs.

While the BRS government was in power, the cabinet passed a resolution nominating party leaders Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana as MLCs. It was rejected by Governor Tamilisai on September 19 last year. Both of them approached the High Court challenging the Governor’s decision. The petitioners claimed that the Governor had acted beyond her jurisdiction and the Council of Ministers had the right to nominate the MLCs. Today, a hearing was held in the High Court on the petition filed by BRS leaders.

Later, after the new government was formed in the state, the state government recommended Prof. Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as MLCs in the nominated quota and sent them to the governor. Tamilisai approved their names following the recommendation of the State Council of Ministers. After getting the approval of the Central Election Commission, their appointment orders were issued. However, challenging this, Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana once again approached the High Court.
