2 Whiskey bottles in the Supreme Court: CJI Chandrachud reacts!

The Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud was shocked when senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi placed two bottles of whiskey in the Supreme Court on Friday. The incident took place during the hearing of an appeal filed against the judgment of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in the ongoing trade mark dispute between Pernod Ricard and JK Enterprises. Mukul Rohatgi appeared on behalf of Pernod Ricard which filed this appeal.

Mukul Rohatgi asked the Supreme Court to order JK Enterprises not to sell alcohol in the name of London Pride. Senior advocate Rohatgi said this as soon as the hearing on this appeal started. He then asked permission to bring alcoholic beverages into the court. Later, he placed two bottles of whiskey in front of the Supreme Court bench. Seeing them, CJI Chandrachud responded, ‘Have you brought the bottles with you?’ Answering the CJI, Rohatgi said that he brought to show the differences between these two products. Using the two bottles, Mukul Rohatgi explained how the trade mark laws were violated. Subsequently, the Supreme Court bench issued orders suspending the High Court verdict. The bench of CJI DY Chandrachud said that the further investigation will be adjourned for two weeks.
