Car Driven Into River in Himachal Pradesh, Sparks Criticism and Legal Action

As Christmas celebrants thronged Himachal Pradesh, various areas grappled with traffic issues. Against this backdrop, an individual opted to plunge their car into a river to evade the congestion. A video capturing a Mahindra Thar SUV navigating Chandranadi in Lahul Valley has circulated widely on social media. Notably, at the time of the incident, there was no immediate peril as the river had no water. Nonetheless, locals are expressing criticism over the driver’s actions.

In response to the video, the police took notice, leading to the registration of a case against the driver under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 for reckless driving. Concurrently, the Lahul-Manali route faced significant congestion due to the surge in tourist arrivals. Over the past three days, 55,000 vehicles have traversed the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang. Managing the tourist influx has posed a considerable challenge for the government machinery.
