Central Government Extends FASTag KYC Deadline

Good news for motorists! The deadline for completing the KYC process for FASTAG has been extended by the central government. The National Highway Authorities of India have pushed the deadline from February 29 to March 31. FASTAG emphasizes that all motorists must complete the KYC process by the new deadline. Failure to do so will result in the blacklisting of the FASTAG account, leading to double toll tax for those on the blacklist.

Since January 1, 2021, the central government has made FASTAG mandatory. This applies to vehicles registered before December 1, 2017. FASTAG is a special tag with a unique ID number that is placed on the vehicle’s windshield. As vehicles pass through toll plazas, the RFID reader scans the tag, deducting toll tax from the linked account. Previously, long queues at toll plazas led to fuel wastage and delays for passengers. However, with the introduction of FASTAG, congestion at toll plazas has significantly decreased.
