IMD Announces Southwest Monsoon Onset, Kerala Spared From Heatwave

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant message to people affected by severe heatwaves and scorching temperatures. The IMD has officially announced the onset of the Southwest Monsoon this morning, sparing Kerala from the summer’s wrath. They mentioned that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to extend to certain regions in Lakshadweep and Kerala. It is expected that the monsoon will reach Andhra Pradesh within the next three to four days. There are indications that this time, there might be more rainfall than usual in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana due to the southwest monsoon.

The Meteorological Department has announced that, except for certain regions in the North-West, East, and North-East states, most parts of the country are expected to experience above-average rainfall this year. They pointed out that there have been nine instances since 1951 where India witnessed good rainfall following El Niño, succeeded by La Niña. Based on this historical data, they have outlined the trajectory of the monsoon for this year. Farmers are gearing up for the upcoming crops with the onset of the southwest monsoon.
