INS Sumitra Rescues Pakistani and Iranian Sailors in Sea Operation
INS Sumitra, a warship of the Indian Navy, has successfully completed another operation. In the Arabian Sea, INS Sumitra rescued a boat hijacked by Somali pirates, which had 19 Pakistani sailors on board. INS Sumitra intercepted an attack on a fishing boat named Al-Naymee. INS Sumitra rescued 19 Pakistani crew members from 11 Somali pirates, as reported by a representative of the Indian Navy.

On Monday, near the coast of Somalia, sea pirates surrounded the Al-Naimi fishing ship which was sailing with an Iranian flag. They captured 19 Pakistani crew members. Indian warship INS Sumitra received the information and intercepted the ship. The crew members who were held captive were released by INS Sumitra. INS Sumitra also conducted an operation early Monday morning. Similarly, on Saturday night, Somali pirates hijacked the Iranian fishing boat MV Iman in the Arabian Sea. On Sunday, the Indian Navy received an urgent message from an Iranian boat to rescue them. The INS Sumitra and the advanced light helicopter Dhruv sprang into action and rescued 17 fishermen.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, are targeting commercial ship in the Red Sea with missiles and drones. Recently, a missile attack was carried out on the Marlin Land ship, which was traveling with oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden. Responding to the distress signal from the ship, the Indian Navy deployed INS Visakhapatnam, which was nearby, to conduct rescue operations.
