Overwhelming Response to Free Bus Scheme: Daily Value of Issued Zero Tickets?
The Mahalakshmi scheme’s provision of free bus journeys for women in Telangana has garnered a tremendous response, with women availing themselves of this benefit in remarkable numbers. According to TSRTC, since the scheme’s initiation, an impressive 6.5 crore women in the state have utilized the free bus travel. On average, approximately 27 lakh women are availing of the free bus journey daily, leading to a daily issuance of zero tickets amounting to Rs. 10 crores.

During a review conducted at Dr BR Ambedkar’s Secretariat, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar commended the staff and officials for the successful implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme. The review emphasized the noteworthy achievement of 6.5 crore women benefitting from the scheme and recommended taking measures to sustain and peacefully implement the initiative.
