Prime Minister Launches India’s First Underwater Metro in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country’s first underwater metro route in Kolkata on Wednesday. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 120 crores, this 16.6-kilometre route has been built under the river along the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade metro section. There are a total of three stations on this route, all of which are located underground.

After inaugurating the underwater metro tunnel, Prime Minister Modi traveled with students. This route connects the twin cities of Howrah and Salt Lake in Kolkata. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi flagged off six new metro trains and also laid the foundation for several development projects.
