Surge in COVID-19 Cases Across India as JN.1 Variant Spreads

The country is witnessing a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, coupled with the emergence of the new variant, JN.1. The Ministry of Health has reported 63 new cases of the JN.1 variant, with instances detected in six states. Of these, 34 cases were identified in Goa, 9 in Maharashtra, 8 in Karnataka, 6 in Kerala, 4 in Tamil Nadu, and 2 in Telangana. Meanwhile, the number of active cases has risen in the last 24 hours compared to Sunday, increasing from 3,742 to 4,054 on Monday.

Experts suggest that the JN.1 variant currently spreading in the country does not pose severe risks, and most patients recover from usual symptoms at home. However, caution is advised. Over the last 24 hours, the country has reported 628 new cases of COVID-19. Kerala leads with 128 active cases, followed by 73 in Karnataka, 50 in Maharashtra, 11 in Rajasthan, 9 in Tamil Nadu, and 8 in Telangana.
