Hero Sumanth’s birthday

Actor Yarlagadda Sumanth Kumar was born on February 9, 1975. Sumanth is the son of the Legendary actor Akkineni Nageshwar Rao’s (ANR) eldest daughter Satyavati. He was introduced to the silver screen with the Ram Gopal Varma film ‘Prema Katha’. But this movie could not give the expected result. He got his first hit with the movie Satyam. After that, he acted in films like Gauri, Dhana 51, Mahanandi, Godavari, Golconda High School, Subramanyapuram, Idam Jagat and Sita Ramam.

Academy Awards 2020

The world’s most prestigious film awards, the Oscars were held on this day for the year 2020. The award function was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA. Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for ‘Joker’. Bong Joon-ho won the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for ‘Parasite’ at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath’s birthday

Australian former international cricketer Glenn Donald McGrath was born on 9 February 1970. This legendary fast bowler who continued his career for 14 years became regarded as arguably the greatest bowler in history. McGrath was instrumental in Australia winning the ODI World Cups in 1999, 2003 and 2007. He took 381 wickets in ODIs, 563 in Tests and 71 wickets in World Cups.

Census begins in Independent India

In 1951, the first census of independent India began. Census was conducted in the years 1951, 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011. Census 2021 has been delayed due to covid in the country.

Morgan invents the game of volleyball

William G. Morgan, physical director of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Mass., invented the game of volleyball in 1895 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The game of volleyball was invented by taking some elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. Volleyball is also known as Mintonette.

  • In 1985, Kiki Camarena, an American intelligence officer working in Mexico against drug trafficking, was kidnapped, tortured and murdered.
  • In 1996, Peter Armbruster, Victor Ninov, and Sigurd Hofmann discovered the highly radioactive Chemical element, ‘element 112’, later named copernicium.
  • 1913 A large group of meteors were visible along the eastern seaboard of America. Astronomers have determined that it is a small, short-lived natural satellite of Earth.
