National Pharmacists Day (12th January)

Pharmacists provide special services in the field of medicine. Their services have saved many people during the pandemic. To recognize the services of such pharmacists, January 12 is observed as National Pharmacists Day.

National Youth Day (12th January)

Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary has been declared as National Youth Day by the Government of India. Every year the Central Government organizes Youth Day with a new theme.

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti (12th January 1863)

Today is the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda who set the spiritual world on fire with his speeches. Born Narendranath Dutta, on 12th January 1863 in Calcutta, Vivekananda introduced the original Indian cultural tradition to the world. He breathed his last on 4th July 1902. Vivekananda is globally recognized as an Indian philosopher and spiritual leader. Vivekananda’s speech at the Chicago Conference of 1893 announced India’s greatness to the world.

Approval of reservation for upper caste poor (12th January 2019)

On this day, President Ram Nath Kovind approved the bill which provided 10% reservation for the poor of the upper castes. The Indian government led by the BJP brought reservations for the upper caste poor. The bill was approved by the President on 12 January 2019 transforming it into a law.

Death of Amrish Puri (12 January 2005)

Today is the death anniversary of veteran actor Amrish Puri, who scared the audience with his imposing figure. Born on 22 January 1932 in Punjab, Amrish Puri acted in nearly 500 films. In the period between 1980 and 1990, filmmakers used to wait for Amrish’s callsheets. Amrish, who acted in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films, passed away on 12 January 2005.
