CWC 2023: Australia Restrict SL To 209 As Both Teams Look To Open WC Account

Australia and Sri Lanka, who lost two matches in a row in the World Cup, met in Lucknow, today. Both the teams are hoping to open their account with a win in this match. The Kangaroo team lost to India in the first match and South Africa in the second match. On the other hand, Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand in the first match and Pakistan in the second match. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat but recorded a small score. The Australians bowled them out inside 43.3 overs and restricting the target to 210 runs.

The two openers gave Sri Lanka a good start. Opener Kushal Pereira scored 78 runs from 82 balls with 12 fours and Pathum Nishanka scored 61 runs from 67 balls with 8 fours. At one stage it looked like they would score more than 300 runs, but they were limited to 209 runs after a rapid collapse of wickets in quick succession.

Kushal Mendis 9, Sadira Samaravikrama 8, Dhananjaya De Silva 7, Dunit Vellalaghe 2, Dunit Vellalaghe 2, Mahesh Theekshana 0 and Lahiru Kumara 4 were the scores of the rest of the Sri Lankan batsmen. As soon as the batter arrived, they took the path to the pavilion. Charit Asalanka made a decent 25 runs.

Pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took two wickets each while offie Glenn Maxwell took 1 wicket. With 4 wickets, Leg-spinner Adam Zampa played a key role in giving Sri Lanka a heavy blow.
