SL VS BAN: Mathews’s Dismissal ‘Against Spirit Of The Game’-Cricket Pundits

The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh match held in Delhi, Arun Jaitley, is leading to new controversies. The way Lankan batter Angelo Mathews got out in this match is surprising to the cricket fans. He became the first cricketer in the history of world cricket to get out with the ‘Timed out’ reason.

What Actually Happened?

Mathews, who came to the crease in the 25th over, waited for another helmet as his helmet had malfunctioned. As three minutes had already passed, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan complained to the umpires, who declared Mathews had timed out.

Mathews tried to explain to the umpire why he was waiting while Shakib insisted on the rules. Then Mathews joined the pavilion in frustration without facing the ball. Criticisms are pouring in on the behaviour of the Bangladesh captain in this incident. Shakib is accused of acting against the spirit of sportsmanship. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir also got angry over this incident and tweeted that it was pathetic.

What is Timed Out?

According to ICC rules, when a wicket falls, the batsman has to come to the crease within two minutes to face the next ball. Otherwise, it will be declared timed out. Such an incident has not happened in international cricket till now. However, there are six such incidents in domestic cricket.
