Mushfiqur Rahim Out For Obstructing The Field

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim got out strangely at home in the second Test against New Zealand. In the second Test against the Kiwis at the Sher A Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Mushpikar became the first Bangla batsman to be dismissed for ‘abstracting the field’. In the 40th over bowled by Kiwis bowler Kyle Jamieson as part of the second test, he was out for blocking the ball.

What Is Abstracting The Field?

According to Law 37 of the rules of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), a batsman who blocks the ball with his hand while playing the ball comes under “abstracting the field”. The batter should not touch the ball unless he is injured or until it is dead. Also, this rule applies even if a batter deliberately interferes with a fielder when caught.

He Was The First

There are 15 such dismissals in international cricket so far. Ramiz Raja (Pakistan), Mohinder Amarnath (India), Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan), and Ben Stokes (England) are also on this list. Mushfiqur Rahim was the first batsman to get out of Bangladesh in this way. In tests, Mushfiqur was second. Earlier, Leonard Hutton (England) was the first batsman to get out in 1951.
