Apart from captaincy, Babar’s failure to play even one good score in the tournament has left the Pakistan fans deeply disappointed. Babar scored only 320 runs in 9 matches of the tournament. After Barbar’s resignation, Shaheen Afridi might get the captaincy.

Babar Azam released a statement about his retirement, saying, “I still vividly remember the moment I got the call from the PCB to lead the Pakistan team in 2019. I have seen a lot of ups and downs on and off the field in the last four years. I aim to save the reputation of Pakistan with all my heart. It is the efforts of the players, coaches, and management that placed Pakistan in the first position in the whiteball format. I am thankful for the support given by Pakistan cricket fans. Today, I am retiring as Pakistan captain in all formats. It was a tough decision. But I think this is the right decision. I will continue to represent Pakistan in all three formats, and I will support the new captain with my experience and dedication.” Babar’s tweet ended with a Pakistan Zindabad slogan.
