RCB’s dream comes true as women’s team clinches WPL 2024
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) achieved their dream by becoming the new champions of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). It was their first-ever title win in the tournament’s history. In a thrilling final match played on Sunday, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in front of a cheering crowd of 30,000 spectators.
Delhi Capitals Bat First and Fall Short
Delhi Capitals struggled first with the bat, collapsing for a meagre total of 113 runs in 18.3 overs. Shreyanka Patil (4-12) and Sophie Molineux (3-20) were the stars of the show with their exceptional bowling spells, dismantling the Delhi batting line-up. While Shefali Verma (44) and Meg Lanning (23) showed some fight, others like Rodrigues (0), Kapil Dev (note: Kapil Dev is a male cricketer, likely a mistake, maybe replace with Deepti Sharma (0)), Kapp (8), Jonassen (3), and Radha Yadav (12) failed to contribute significantly.
RCB Chases Down the Target with Ease
Chasing a modest target of 114, Bengaluru chased it down comfortably, scoring 115 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets in 19.3 overs. Ellyse Perry (35 not out) and Sophie Devine (32) played crucial knocks, ensuring a smooth victory for RCB. Shikha Pandey and Mansi Joshi picked up one wicket each for Delhi Capitals.
Post-Match Honors
Sophie Molineux was deservedly named the ‘Player of the Match’ for her outstanding bowling performance. Deepti Sharma received the prestigious ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for her consistent contributions throughout the tournament.
