Sourav Ganguly: ‘I Have Nothing To Do With Kohli’s Captaincy Removal’

Star batsman Virat Kohli has captained Team India in all three formats. While Kohli resigned from the captaincy in T20 and Test formats, BCCI removed him from the responsibility of ODI captaincy. There is a rumour that BCCI president Ganguly had the leading role in removing Kohli from the captaincy. Recently, Ganguly tried to explain these allegations. He explained that they will always give responsibility to those who have excelled on the field.

Ganguly’s Involvement

Ganguly, who participated in the reality show Dadagiri Unlimited season 10, explained the resignation of Kohli’s captaincy on this occasion. With Kohli resigning from Tests, Rohit is leading Team India in all three formats. As Sourav Ganguly was the President of India at that time, there was a lot of speculation that the former captain had sidelined Kohli.

Ganguly made it clear that he had nothing to do with Kohli’s removal from the captaincy. He said that it is true that Rohit Sharma was encouraged to take up the responsibility of captaincy. Meanwhile, captain Kohli resigned from his post after the T20 World Cup defeat in 2021. Then, in 2022, he resigned from the Test cricket captaincy after the Test series defeat against West Indies.

Kohli In Fourth Position

After Dhoni’s retirement in 2014, Kohli was chosen as India’s Test captain. Kohli captained 68 Tests in 7 years and gave India 40 victories. They lost 17 more Tests. While Virat holds the record for India’s most Test victories, he stands fourth overall. Graeme Smith (53), Ricky Ponting (48) and Steve Waugh (41) are the first three.
