A sad event has occurred in the Tamil film industry, as Captain Vijayakanth, the renowned Tamil superstar and DMDK leader, has passed away. After battling illness for some time, he succumbed while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. Recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and experiencing respiratory distress, doctors concluded that ventilator support and treatment would be futile.

Born on August 25, 1952, in Madurai, Vijayakanth, originally named Narayanan Vijayaraj Alagarswami, entered the film industry at the age of 27 with ‘Inikkum Ilamai,’ where he portrayed a villain. He went on to achieve success with films like ‘Doorathu Idi Muzhakkam’ and ‘Sattam Oru Iruttarai.’ With a filmography spanning over 100 movies, he earned the moniker “Captain” after the success of his 100th film, ‘Captain Prabhakar.’ In 2005, he founded the DMDK party, becoming an MLA and significantly impacting Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
