AP Elections: YSRCP’s Growing Influence and Voter Sentiments

Ahead of the upcoming elections, numerous surveys have been conducted in the state to gauge public sentiment. A recent survey indicates that a majority of voters are inclined towards the YSRCP. While some urban residents expressed support for the TDP, Janasena, and BJP alliance, the majority of rural voters favoured the YSRCP. According to a survey conducted by Swatantra TV and The Pioneer, the YSRCP is gaining momentum, particularly in rural areas.

The survey conducted in the past 30 days has highlighted strong support for the YSRCP to retain power. Across various regions of the state, distinct voting preferences have emerged. In urban areas, some voters have urged the ruling party to prioritize development issues. Meanwhile, rural voters have overwhelmingly backed the YSRCP, with support spanning across almost all districts. Many rural voters have expressed their intention to vote for the YSRCP once again, appreciating its governance over the past five years.

Rural Voters Dominating the Polling Scene

In the recent assembly elections in the neighbouring state, rural voters showed strong support for the Congress party, leading to its victory. Similarly, in terms of population and electorate distribution, rural voters hold the majority, with some districts having urban populations of less than 20 percent. In districts like East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantapur, urban voters constitute more than 20 percent of the total electorate. However, in all other districts, rural voters form the majority. In districts such as Srikakulam, Prakasam, and West Godavari, more than 80 percent of voters reside in rural areas. This trend suggests that the majority of voters are inclined towards the YSRCP, as rural areas hold sway in terms of voter numbers.

YSRCP’s Performance Garners Positive Reception

The YSRCP enjoys strong backing from rural voters, who express satisfaction with the party’s performance. Rural voters have praised the timely release of funds under the YSRCP’s governance. They appreciate initiatives such as monthly social security pensions, the establishment of a village volunteer system, and the doorstep distribution of ration and legal certificates, including caste, marriage, and death certificates. Additionally, the survey indicates satisfaction with improvements in road infrastructure, the introduction of English medium education in schools, and enhancements to primary health centres.
