AP Government Accelerates Industrial Growth, Aims to Transform AP into Pharmaceutical Hub

CM Jagan assumed power in the AP in 2019 since then public from various backgrounds are expressing satisfaction with the government’s governance. The CM’s administration is implementing welfare programs transparently, delivering benefits directly to the recipients. The state’s business-friendly policies have attracted investments from numerous companies. Against this backdrop, the government has initiated the establishment of a pharma Drug park spanning approximately 2,001.8 acres in Anakapalli district.

The Bulk Drug Park, situated at Nakkapally, will be developed through the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. APIIC has invited tenders for the construction of the park, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1,234.75 crore. The park will encompass 1,009.85 acres for pharmaceutical industries, 595.4 acres for API-DIS synthesis, 414.1 acres for fermentations, and 150 acres for other commercial purposes. The bidding process is set to conclude by March 18. Competing with 16 other states, Andhra Pradesh was selected for the establishment of the Bulk Drug Park.

In line with the goal of reducing pharmaceutical imports from China, the central government decided to set up three Bulk Drug Parks. Although initially planned for Kakinada, the park is now being developed at Nakkapally on state government land. The establishment of this park is anticipated to position the state as a prominent pharmaceutical hub, further boosting the existing 300 pharmaceutical companies. The bulk drug park is expected to attract over 100 new companies, providing direct employment to an estimated 27,360 people.

Currently, the state holds the third position with a 16% share in domestic pharmaceutical products, with an annual receipt of Rs 41,500 crore worth of pharma products and exports exceeding Rs 8,300 crore. The Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, previously developed by late CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy, already hosts more than 60 major companies such as Mylan, Pfizer, Dr. Reddy’s, and Aurobindo on its 2,400 acres.
