Jagan Stands With Farmers: AP Govt Assures Compensation

The state is facing drought this year. Due to the lack of rain, the cultivation of crops in Kharif has been hampered in many places. With this, the government is working hard to help the farmers. The exercise by the authorities to estimate the crop loss in drought-affected areas has reached its final stage. Eligible lists are displayed at Rythu Bharosa Kendras for social checks. After considering the objections, the final list will be presented on December 1. The government is thinking of putting the compensation in the accounts by the end of the month.

The effect of drought is more in the Rayalaseema region of the state. In Kharif, while rainfall of 574.7 mm is expected, only 487.2 mm of rainfall was recorded. And in 7 districts of Rayalaseema, there is a 21-35 per cent deficit of rainfall. This affected the cultivation. Normally, 85.97 lakh acres are cultivated, but only 64.35 lakh acres were harvested due to little rains. While the general area under horticultural crops is 42 lakh acres, only 28.94 lakh acres were cultivated.

Identification of Drought Zones:

As drought conditions arose in 7 districts, the government conducted surveys in many places. The mandal level was taken as a unit as per the Drought Management Manual under the Centre’s guidelines. Officials have found that the effect of drought is high in about 80 mandals and it is slight in 23 mandals. A total of 103 mandals have been declared as drought mandals. In the respective mandals, special teams assessed the crop loss at the field level. The damage assessment of agricultural crops has been completed. The assessment of horticultural crops will be completed soon.

Major Damage to Commercial and Oilseed Crops

If we look at the crop-wise damage estimates, it is said that crops were damaged in 14.91 lakh acres in 7 districts. In this regard, 7.06 lakh farmers will receive compensation. It was confirmed that crops were damaged on 14.17 lakh acres in rainfed areas and 74 thousand acres in waterlogged areas. Among the 7 districts, Kurnool district has the highest number of crops at 6.92 lakh acres. It was found that 4.66 lakh acres in Anantapur district and 1.98 lakh acres in Sri Sathyasai district were affected.

The cultivation of commercial crop cotton has been affected. The maximum loss was 5.59 lakh acres. Also, 3.93 lakh acres of groundnut, 2.41 lakh acres of turmeric, 1 lakh acres of castor and maize crops were damaged, and 43 thousand acres of rice crops were damaged. The compensation is being assessed as per the norms of NDRF and SDRF. Reports have already been received by the Centre for drought relief.

Crop loss lists are already being displayed in RBKs as part of social inspections. Consideration of objections has been completed. In this regard, it will be published on December 1. Officials reveal that they are working to deposit the crop compensation by the end of the month.
