Syed Modi International Badminton: Mixed Results For India

India got mixed results in the Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament being held in Lucknow. India’s star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth once again disappointed the fans. He lost in the first round of the tournament. In the men’s singles first round held on Wednesday, former world no.1 Srikanth lost in straight games to Korean shuttler Chia Hao Lee 21-23, 8-21. Unnati Hooda, Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George made a good start.

In other matches, Priyanshu won 21-17 and 21-19 against Dimitri Paranin (Kazakhstan), and Kiran George won against Chirag Sen 21-16, 14-21, and 21-13. Sameer Verma lost to Wang Jingwei (Chinese Taipei) 9–21, 21–17, 17–21. In women’s singles, 16-year-old Unnati shocked India’s Akarshi Kashyap with 15-21, 21-19, 21-18. Anupama and Ashmita also entered the second round.
