Bharat Ratna for Former PM PV Narasimha Rao
The central government has announced the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement from his X handle. On Friday, alongside PV Narasimha Rao, the government honoured former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and distinguished agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, recognized as the father of the Green Revolution, with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. PV Narasimha Rao stood as the first Telugu person to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna award. This time, a total of five individuals were announced to receive the Bharat Ratna awards.

PV Narasimha Rao’s full name is Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao. He was born on June 28, 1921, and was the first person from Telugu states and Telangana to serve as the Prime Minister of India from 1991 to 1996. He was well-experienced in politics. He took on the responsibilities of Prime Minister during a time when India was facing an economic crisis and transformed the economic and trade landscape of the country. He was the visionary who led India towards the path of liberalization and global integration. He was the intellect who expanded trade and commerce with other countries, pivoting India’s economy towards globalization.
