Former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi Passes Away Due to Cardiac Arrest

Former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi passed away early on Friday at the age of 86. He was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai two days ago following a heart attack and passed away while undergoing treatment. Family members mentioned that he had been receiving treatment at PD Hinduja Hospital for some time. His funeral is scheduled to take place this afternoon at the Shivaji Park crematorium in Mumbai.

Entering Politics in 1967

Manohar Joshi was born on December 2, 1937, in the village of Nandvi in Raigad district of Maharashtra and entered politics in 1967. After being elected as a municipal councillor during 1968-70, he became a key leader in the Shiv Sena party. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister, Joshi served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004. After serving three terms as an MLC, he was elected as an MLA in the 1990s. His wife passed away in 2020. He has a son and two daughters.
