India Makes History, Enters Final for the First Time: Asian Team Championship

The Indian women’s badminton team made history by reaching the semi-finals of the Asian Team Championship for the first time, securing a medal. They advanced to the finals after defeating Japan 3-2. Today, they are competing against Thailand for the gold medal.

Saturday’s semi-final match was filled with excitement. Pullela Gayatri-Treesa Jolly played brilliantly in the doubles match, while Ashmita Chaliha and Anmol secured sensational victories in singles matches, leading the team to the final. However, star player PV Sindhu faced defeat in her singles match, causing India to fall behind. The Gayatri-Treesa pair levelled the score by defeating the sixth-ranked Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida pair in doubles. Despite an unexpected performance from Ashmita in the second singles, former world champion Okuhara secured a victory, resulting in India’s 2-1 loss.

In the doubles match, India initially had the advantage, but faced a setback when Tanisha Krasto got injured, prompting Sindhu to partner with Ashwini Ponnappa. Unfortunately, the Ashwini duo lost, levelling the scores once again. The final league match against China became even more thrilling when 17-year-old Anmol secured a victory against the Chinese player Nidaira, giving India a historic 3-2 lead and securing their spot in the final.
