Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes like dengue and chicken pox. It spreads through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. While not typically fatal, it poses risks to unborn children, potentially causing microcephaly and neurological issues. Since 2016, there have been no reported cases in the country, according to the Union Health Department. Symptoms include fever, skin rash, muscle and joint pain, headache, gastrointestinal problems, sore throat, and cough. The Health Department urges states to focus on pregnant women in affected areas, advising disease control measures in residential areas, workplaces, schools, construction sites, and health centres. They encourage public awareness through social media and other channels to prevent unnecessary panic about the virus.
