President Approves Bill for Ensuring Fair Competitive Exams

Recent leaks and malpractices in competitive exams for government jobs have notably troubled both the government and aspiring candidates. To tackle this situation, the central government has made a significant decision. The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, approved the “The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024” unanimously passed by both houses last Monday, to combat malpractices in public examinations. This will soon become law. The new legislation will be enforced starting from the date announced by the central government in the official gazette.

Under the new law, those involved in leaking exam papers, malpractices, or creating fake websites for government competitive exams will face up to 10 years in prison. Moreover, they could be fined up to Rs. 1 crore. Despite governments implementing strict rules and regulations to curb malpractices in exams, fraudsters continue to evolve and engage in deceptive activities. The recent Group-1 exam paper leak conducted by the Telangana Public Service Commission has resulted in significant losses for many job seekers. Years of their hard work have been rendered futile. The discovery that employees within the commission were behind the paper leak has shocked the entire community. The government believes that the new law can effectively curb such malpractices, ensuring a more secure and fair examination process for government job aspirants.
