DMK Declares Support To Congress In Telangana Elections

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced its support to the Congress in the assembly elections to be held in Telangana. The party announced this decision at a media conference held at the party headquarters in Chennai on Tuesday. The party has issued directives to the DMK workers and fans to work for the win of the Congress candidates contesting in the Telangana Assembly. Meanwhile, the Congress party thanked Tamil Nadu CM Stalin for declaring his support.

DMK’s First Time Outside Tamil Nadu

Congress and DMK are in alliance in Tamil Nadu. Apart from that, the two parties are also part of the opposition alliance formed at the national level against the BJP. It seems that the DMK has decided to support the Congress party in the Telangana assembly elections. However, this is the first time that DMK has cooperated with the Congress party in elections outside Tamil Nadu.

Sharmila’s Support Is Also For Congress

In Telangana, YSRTP led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister YS Sharmila has also announced support for the Congress party. The party withdrew from the electoral arena and declared its support to the Congress. He said that this decision was taken to ensure that Congress votes are not split as suggested by many surveys. She said that she should not stand in the way of anti-government votes when there is a possibility of regime change in the state. Sharmila made it clear that the goal is to oust KCR.

A Two-Horse Race In Telangana

Telangana assembly elections will be held on the 30th of this month. After that, the election results will be released on December 3. In this election to be held for 119 assembly seats, Congress and BRS are in the main contest. BJP, BSP and AIMIM are also working to show their influence.
